Scripture | Ephesians 6:12, “For
our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against
the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual
forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
Lesson 14 | The Prayer of Spiritual Warfare
There is no doubt
that the Bible teaches we as Christians are in a battle against the forces of
evil. Therefore, God gave us a powerful
prayer weapon called, “spiritual warfare.”
The prayer of spiritual warfare is a type of prayer directed to God to
defeat our enemies and give us the victory.
Many times David can
be see in the Psalms praying to God for Him to defeat his enemies, Psalm 3:7,
18:3, 55:15, & 143:9. In those days
David was praying literally against people and was asking God to strengthen his
hands for war. However, in the above
passage Paul makes it clear that we are not fighting against “flesh and blood,”
but rather “spiritual forces of evil.”
Therefore, when we pray to God to defeat our enemies it should only be in
regards to the devil and his demons.
For example, we
should pray like this concerning persecution towards Christians in other
countries, “Father, I pray in the name of Jesus that you strike down the spirit
of violence and intoleration upon the nation of North Korea towards your
people. I pray that the devil’s power
will be broken over the leadership of that nation so they can repent and be
saved. Deliver your people and allow
your children to worship you without fear or harm, Amen.”
Therefore, whenever
you face spiritual attacks from the evil one pray against them in the name of
Jesus. Do not fight your battle with
earthly weapons or against people, but rather pray and ask God to deliver you
from your enemies. The Devil has already
been defeated, thus he can only have power when the people of God do not stand
against him.
Remember, you are
under the protection and rulership of King Jesus and He is the King of all
Kings and the Lord or all Lords!
Reflection | What spiritual battles are you facing today?
Action | (1) Consider the battles you may facing today and discern by the Holy Spirit if they are attacks of the devil. (2) If you are being attacked by the devil pray against them in Jesus name. (3) Lastly, stand on the Word of God and believe you have the victory!
