so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: Be holy, because I am holy.”
Lesson 14 | Wholly Holy
Lesson 14 | Wholly Holy
Imagine you’ve been
playing volleyball in your friend’s backyard all afternoon on a sunny fourth of
July with the temperature in the 90’s.
After the last game, you ask your friend to get you a glass of cold
water because you are extremely dehydrated.
He quickly returns with a crystal clear glass of water for you and just
as you take your first gulp he states, “I got it from the toilet, hope you
don’t mind?!”
What would you
do? Chances are your would first, spit
out the water, second, chase down your friend, and lastly, pour the water down
his or her shirt. Afterwards, you would
probably never let someone get you a glass of water again. The same is true with God, but without the
laughs.
God saves us to
cleanse and purify us from all sin. God
wants us to be 100% holy and set apart from our sins. He doesn’t want us just to be 95% or even
99.99% pure- He wants us to be wholly holy, 100%. Therefore, when a person is saved and
cleansed from all their sins they now must keep it that way by the power of the
Holy Spirit. And if the believer ever
should ever sin, the blood of Jesus will cleanse them and make them 100% pure
if they repent and let God change their habits.
Just like how you
wouldn’t want to drink toilet water because the bacteria from the toilet and
particles could make you sick. Don’t
live for Jesus partially, and have Him spit you out of His mouth on judgment
day, Revelation 3:16. Therefore, be holy
and free from sin because God is holy.
Remember, you can’t
save or cleanse yourself; both salvation and sanctification come from the grace
of God and are received from Jesus by faith, and made real by the Holy
Spirit. Thus, live wholly holy by the
power of a Holy God living on the inside of you.
Reflection | Are you wholly holy?
Action | (1) Search your heart to see if it is 100% pure. (2) If God shows you any sins and impurities, ask Him to cleanse you and break the habit of sin in your life. (3) Lastly, remain 100% pure. Keep your heart from sin. Let holiness be your standard in life.
