August 15 | How Do I Overcome Sad Times?

Series The Purpose Filled Life

Scripture Isaiah 61:1c, “He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted.”

Lesson 15 | How Do I Overcome Sad Times?

God wants us to overcome our sad times in life by giving Jesus all of our hurts and pain.  Many times in life’s tragedies people ask, “Where is God?”  The Bible teaches us that God is always with us and is personally aware of our pain.  Isaiah wrote in Isaiah 53:4 concerning when Jesus was on the cross, “Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering.”  There is no pain you will ever have in life that Jesus didn't personally experience on the cross.

When Jesus was on the cross He supernaturally bore all the pain that the world has ever felt.  Only the divine Son of God in the flesh could have bore such pain upon His soul- that is why Jesus alone is our Savior.  As a result, when you go through sad times, Jesus is literally the only person that can truly say, “I know how you feel!”

Likewise, the author of Hebrews wrote in Hebrews 4:16, “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”  We are to come to Jesus with all of our hurts and make the confession, “Jesus, I give you all my pain because you understand what I am going through.”

When we come to Jesus with our sadness and heavy burdens He promises to “bind (heal) our broken hearts!”  Therefore, hear the words of Jesus bidding you to come and run to Him in your times of sadness.

Matthew 11:28-29, “28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
